Ralph Outcalt has been cooking since he was a young child. His earliest memory of cooking was standing on the top of a stepstool to stir a pot while working with his grandmother. His grandmother, a prize winning cook, taught him cooking from a very early age. Cooking for his family was his first culinary job.
During this early period in his life he started preparing food items for friends and family and distributed them to people in the neighborhood. As a young adult he continued to expand his understanding of the art of cooking by traveling to different nations and making friends with many people from other cultures. Experiencing authentic foods and cuisine from these other nationalities, he expanded his own skills and continued to entertain friends and family with his culinary skills.
At one point, he taught international cooking courses for the Community College system in Wilmington, North Carolina (where he was working as a senior administrator and teaching computer science courses as well). Later, after purchasing a 19th century Victorian home (Mistletoe Villa), he catered many parties.
At one of many parties for friends, family and neighbors, a friend remarked: "People don't usually go to parties for food. But your parties are the exception." For years, his friends have encouraged (some would say pushed) him to market his BBQ Sauce and other BBQ items.
History of the Sauce
Growing up in Charleston, SC, Ralph gained an appreciation for fine dining and one of the greatest delicacies of the south - BBQ. As he lived and traveled around the world, a new appreciation of the many variations of BBQ began to develop. In an effort to find the "perfect" accompaniment for BBQ, he continued to experiment and research until, at last, the Ultimate Sauce was perfected. Friends and family would come over to enjoy his cooking and marvel at the taste of the sauce and fine food. Often, they would request recipes. More often they would request sauce to take home with them for their own cooking needs.
Honing and improving your sauce and ribs is an evolutionary process that has produced "Ralph's Ribs sauce" a masterpiece of accentuating mouth watering flavor for pork and other meats. However, recognizing the need to appeal to people who appreciated something with a little more "kick" to it, he developed a "Spicy" version of the sauce. Both of these have gained wide acceptance and are available for purchase through this web site.
Rib Regimen
Why "Regimen", you ask. The answer is simple though the regime is a bit more complicated. As a testament to just how influential television can be, much of the credit for the "ultimate" ribs can be credited to the TV series, MASH. Most of you who are older than 30 will remember the classic episode where Hawkeye sent back to the mythical restaurant "Adams Ribs" for one of his childhood memories. Ralph has always enjoyed ribs but that show inspired him to embark on the quest for the quintessential "Ribs".
Years of experimentation and countless ribs later, he created and documented the regimen for the finest ribs that ever melted in your mouth. This regimen is available from this website for free in either a download or stepping page by page through the process.
